I am a mostly retired Nurse who works enough to pay for a studio and art supplies. I have been making art all my life, with no formal degree-type training, beginning with sewing at an early age. I discovered the JOY of quilting when I realized how much I liked breaking rules and telling stories. Workshops in surface design and art quilting, mentoring and encouragement from quilt artists, discovering the magic of assemblage with found objects, has landed me right in the middle of a mixed media world of art. I have been making my art and keeping it mostly to myself, giving it away only when I felt it was safe to do so. Finally, I was convinced that in order to grow artistically, I had to open up my art world for others to see, to like or not, but to see. Please take a look. Any comments, suggestions are welcome.

STILL MAKING HOUSES

I haven't posted in such a long time. Funny how life gets in the way . I'm still having fun building houses with my decorator fabric backgrounds, using pieces of my own cottons that have been painted, stamped, silk-screened, image-transferred, etc. etc. It has been wonderful finding rejected pieces of fabrics from previously "ruined" projects that I didn't throw out, cutting them up and having them end up just perfect for a roof, or a window or door. So, as awful as it looks as a whole piece, don't toss it. Put it away to slice and dice for another piece. I've been happy with the results of my little house quilts and entered three of them into the 2009 National Small Art Quilt Works Exhibition and the Main Street Gallery in Groton New York. All three were accepted and are shown below, with detail shots. I am very excited. The show runs from July 23, 2009-September 6, 2009.

    I love these. I hope to get to see the show when I am back visiting family next month. I missed the deadline to enter this. Congrats to you.

    You haven't posted in a while--we missed you.

    I really enjoy your work--these pieces have a large-scale look even though they're small. I love the way the photo transfer sort of float up thru the surface design.

    Beautiful work! Some of my favorite pieces include cut-up UGLY fabric (and I do mean ugly) that takes on a whole new look when cut into small pieces and put against other fabric. I guess that's why I can't bring myself to throw anything away :-)
